Photo verification

Simply take a selfie and it will be matched with a reference photo, such as your driver licence. As soon as the check is successfully completed, the selfie will be destroyed. Learn how photo verification technology works.

How to create your NSW Digital ID

When NSW Digital ID is ready for general availability, the process will be very quick and simple.

To set up your NSW Digital ID, we will first need to check that you are who you say you are.

1

Login to your Service NSW mobile app (or download if you don’t already have the app installed).

2

Verify your identity using two or more identity documents, such as your driver licence and Medicare card.

3

Take a selfie, which will be verified against your government issued documents, such as your driver licence.

4

A confirmation code will be sent to your mobile number.

That’s it! Your NSW Digital ID will be created and ready for use.

Choose an identity proofing level

When you create your NSW Digital ID, you'll be asked what strength identity you want.

Different services require different levels of identity strength to prove who you are, you will choose from:

  1. Standard will be a verification based on identity documents only
  2. Strong will be a verification based on identity documents as well as facial verification. Strong ID will allow you to complete more government based transactions online.

Increasing your digital identity proofing level

  • Services that have a higher level of identity risk, like applying for a tax file number, will require a stronger digital identity.
  • If you have created a Standard proofing level and you want to access a service that requires a Strong proofing level, you will need to increase the strength within your NSW Digital ID.
